AnkerSepp is a clip-on device for electric anchor windlasses that shows the amount of chain paid out, in metres, on a built-in display – with no installation and no wiring.
AnkerSepp is built by Horst Weber in Wals-Siezenheim near Salzburg, Austria. It is not a company with a marketing department; it is one person, a workshop and a prototype that goes out on the water.
The product exists because of a problem every crew knows. You lay the anchor, and then somebody asks how much chain is out. The honest answer is usually a guess — from the sound of the windlass, from the seconds counted, from chain markings that have long since worn away. That guess decides whether the anchor holds through the night.
AnkerSepp turns the guess into a number. It clips onto the windlass that is already on the bow, shows the metres paid out on a display, and comes off again just as easily. Nothing is drilled, cut or wired into the boat.
A working prototype exists and is being tested on real boats. There is no release date and no price yet, and we would rather say that plainly than name figures we might have to take back. The waitlist is where both will be announced first.
